Postpartum at Candlelight

She had it all figured out,
Every broken heart,
The living men in her legacy.

We used to run through orchid fields,
Fading the day,
As it passed by our way.

But one day, she never showed up,
That day I died,
Three times, before I figured out she wasn’t real.

She knew all along; and everyday,
I tried my hardest,
But I guess it never passed by my way.

And she told me, life’s the choices you make,
Every breaking beat,
Since the men living in its’ legacy.

She also told me to skip when life got tough,
Even when you think you’re right,
You have to disagree as it fades away.

And she said if you’re going no where,
To get off the drugs,
Miss the last train, and watch a sunset.

I took a look in the hospital room,
And I found my day,
The living men, and their legacy.
